ADULT EDUCATION

Athens-Clarke Literacy Council

Program Description: The Athens Clarke Literacy Council is an umbrella organization

promoting adult literacy programs in Athens-Clarke County. ACLC holds volunteer training for those wishing to be involved in adult literacy instruction, directs volunteers to adult literacy programs needing assistance, and links adult students to appropriate organizations for instruction.

Clarke County Mentor Program

Additional Information: Trains mentors and matches them with students in the Clarke County School District; mentors are asked to make a one year commitment to the program and are required to spend a minimum of one hour per week at school with their students

Additional Information: Dedicated to promoting healthier outcomes for children ages 4-15 with a primary focus on those with incarcerated parents. Mentors spend three hours per week with a child. Mentors must complete an application, personal interview, submit to a background check, and maintain motor vehicle insurance. Mentors are provided free training.
