Introduction

This handbook is designed to make the practicum and student teaching in Occupational Studies a meaningful professional experience for you, the student, and all the other personnel with whom you work. In this handbook you will find the information you need to guide you through your practicum and student teaching experiences provided. You are encouraged to view these experiences as opportunities to test your knowledge of teaching and learning and to ready yourself for a rewarding professional career in education. Your supervising teacher, your university supervisor, and all the other support personnel during this experience form a community of professional practitioners with whom you will find support. It is our intent that you will emerge from these experiences with the skills, knowledge, and commitment to provide the best learning environment you can for the students who will be your responsibility.

Requirements for Admission into Teacher Education in Occupational Studies

Formal "admission to Teacher Education" is a step required before students enroll in the sequence of courses designated as "professional education courses," or the student teaching block. In the Department of Occupational Studies these include EOCS 4350 Curriculum Planning in Occupational Studies, EOCS 4360 Instructional Strategies and EOCS 5460 Student Teaching in Occupational Studies. Applications are available from 122 Aderhold Hall and are processed through the Educational Field Experiences Office, in accordance with criteria and recommendations of each specific department. The application includes an authorization form for a criminal background check, which is required by many school systems for all personnel, including student teachers. See the College of Education web site for application deadlines and further information http://www.coe.uga.edu/TED/fieldexp/admission.html.
