Dr. John M. Mativo, assistant professor, worked as a Research Scientist/Engineer with the Air Force Research Laboratory in Dayton, Ohio in Summer 2008. His research was primarily on Aircraft Thermal Management, looking for ways to maximize energy use and minimize waste. He was investing new methods and materials in developing energy harvesting Thermoelectric devices that will convert thermal energy into electrical energy more efficiently. This research is intended to extend aircraft missions. Dr. John M. Mativo

On June 25, 2008, Dr. Bill Gohdes (Ed.D., 2002, Occupational Studies) retired as Dean of Instruction, Covington Campus, DeKalb Technical College.

Dr. David P. Johnson, a 2002 Workforce Education graduate, was recently promoted to Acting Director of Computer Studies at the University of Maryland, University College (UMUC). While a doctoral student in the Workforce Education program, Dr. Johnson’s focus area was Business Education where his background in Computer Systems Management proved extremely valuable to the Program. He served as Mu Chapter President of Omicron Tau Theta, the graduate honor society for the profession of vocational, technical, workforce, and career education. He was the recipient of a Graduate School Dissertation Completion Award which supported his dissertation work “The cognitive effects of design principles on academic performance of students using Web-based instruction,” led by his major advisor, Dr. Myra N. Womble. In addition to his work as Director of Computer Studies at UMUC, Dr. Johnson currently teaches IFSM 201 Introduction to Computer-Based Systems. Dr. David P. Johnson
