Impacts of Standards on the Instruction of Construction

Problem solving & critical thinking skills, Business partnership, and contribution to the community are the results of the innovative initiatives on the instruction of construction according to the standards for technological literacy at Wausau Public School in Wausau, Wisconsin.

Construction in Middle School

While students are constructing a real bridge and crossing the bridge, they communicate, collaborate, and finally solve a problem in the design process. It is a prime example of how technology education activities can incorporate multiple learning standards.

Design and Problem Solving

At the university level technology education classroom, students are engaged in a total process of designing, making, and evaluating. The engineering design process provides a unique way of integrating math, science, and technology to solve a problem.

Keys to Effective Assessment

In Susan Presley's class at North Cobb High School in Georgia, assessment is not about a pencil and paper test. Students are assessed through open-ended questioning, peer assessment, portfolios, student self-reflection, and work samples in their whole learning process.

Manufacturing in the Dark

Student-centered program takes students on a journey to many technology areas including manufacturing. Students develop their design idea to solve a practical problem while keeping in touch with society.

Impacts of Standards on the Instruction of Power and Energy

Students realize what they have taken for granted about power and energy around their every day life when are involved in a class activity at Wilson Middle School in Appleton, Wisconsin.

Power & Energy: CO2 Cars

A CO2 car unit helps students understand how to connect engineering and power at Warner Middle School in Farmington, WI. They learn a science concept as well as develop their own CO2 Cars during the whole design process in the class.

Teaching to the Standard on Communications

Students have high self-esteem and self-confidence because they are in charge of each area in a project while they are producing a news program at Harrison High School. They learn how to communicate with each other as well as with an audience.
