Educational Field Experiences / Student Teaching
The Consortium for Overseas Student Teaching Program (COST)
What do I do from here?
- Share and discuss this information with your parents.
- If you decide to pursue this opportunity, contact Martha Pruet, UGA COST Coordinator, in 122 Aderhold Hall. Request she will write to the head of your department seeking approval for you to participate in the COST program. Write a one-page essay stating why you would like to apply for the COST program to accompany this request.
- Upon receipt of an approved departmental recommendation, Ms. Kristin will contact you to pick up the official COST application with instructions for completion.
- The official application will consist of several forms, an autobiography, listing of classes, description of classes with field experiences, letters of recommendation, proof of insurance, parent's signature and a $100 application fee (Cashier's Check or U.S. Money Order.) You must list three possible countries when you apply. No guarantees can be given to any specific site.
- Once you have submitted your application to COST, obtain a U.S. passport. Make copies of pages two and three of your passport. Leave one copy at home and carry one copy separate from the original. This will be helpful in the event your passport is lost or stolen and you have to get a duplicate.
- Secure an international driver's license if you anticipate driving overseas. It cannot be obtained once you leave the United States.
- Prior to departure you need to contact Ken Hansing in the Career Planning and Placement Office in Clark Howell Hall, 542-3375, in order to set up a placement file. You must do this so that any recommendations you received from your overseas student teaching can be mailed directly to the file.
- Contact the Student Services Office, 122 Aderhold Hall, to make sure you will be able to graduate upon completion of student teaching and any deadlines which may apply to you.
