Frequently Asked Questions
- Where can I go to find out the names and content of the classes listed for each major?
You should check out the UGA Bulletin for more details about the courses required for each major.
- How do I know if the classes I'm currently taking fit into these categories?
If you are taking classes at a school in Georgia, you can find out how many of your classes will transfer by visiting the Transfer Equivalency Search on the Transfer section of the UGA Admissions page. The most common classes are listed on this site. If the class is not common, or if you are taking classes outside the state of Georgia, you should check with the admissions office or the specific department in which you wish to transfer. When you are in doubt, always check with your department.
- What is the PRAXIS test and how can I exempt it?
The PRAXIS test is a standardized test required by the state of Georgia in order to certify teachers. It is taken in two parts. PRAXIS I measures your reading, writing and math abilities. Some students qualify to exempt the PRAXIS I, based on their SAT, ACT, or GRE scores. In order to exempt, you must have:
*SAT minimum total of 1000
*ACT minimum total of 43
*GRE minimum total of 1030
If you do not exempt, you should plan to take this part before beginning your major courses. PRAXIS II measures your knowledge of the content of the area in which you plan to major. You will take it after completing your course of study at UGA.
- Help! I have additional questions.
If you still have questions, please do not hesitate to contact the department in which you plan to transfer or the College of Education Student Services office at (706) 542-1717.
