Academic Advising

Make an Advising Appointment

As a currently enrolled student, you must be advised each term before you pre-register for the next term's classes.

You can make an appointment as early as the 2nd or 3rd week of the semester. Students can call 706-542-1717 to arrange an appointment or come to Room 122 Aderhold. If you wish to see a specific advisor, ask for an appointment with the individual you wish to see. You may also elect to be advised by any advisor on a day and time that best fits your schedule.

You should plan to arrive about 5 minutes early for your appointment. Your advisor will review your progress and discuss course options for your degree requirements; you will also receive an advisement form with course recommendations. After you have been advised, your advisor will clear you for registration.

Juniors and seniors, who have been accepted into their major, should check with their major department after the 2nd or 3rd week of the term to determine the advising procedure for that department.

Advising appointments are times generally reserved for the planning of coursework and "clearing" students to register, and should be made each semester. Students should bring their previous advising materials with them to their appointments, in case these are needed for reference. To help plan your schedule, you should get a copy of the OASIS Schedule of Classes and select 7 to 10 courses that you might like to take during the semester. Each advising appointment is limited to thirty minutes, so students should be prepared to discuss courses of interest and any questions when they arrive.
