 Minimum GPA Requirements for the College of Education

  • For entering freshmen, acceptance is determined by the UGA Faculty Admissions Committee.
  • Minimum transfer GPA requirements
Business Education 2.00 overall
Communication Sciences & Disorders 3.20 overall
Early Childhood Education 2.75 cumulative and overall
English Education 2.60 overall
Exercise and Sport Science 2.75 overall
Foreign Language Education 2.60 overall
Health and Physical Education 2.50 overall
Marketing Education 2.00 overall
Mathematics Education 2.50 overall
Middle School Education 2.75 cumulative and overall
Social Science Education 2.50 overall
Special Education 2.70 overall
Sport Studies 2.30 overall
Technology Education 2.50 overall
Trade and Industry Studies 2.00 overall
 
For Recreation and Leisure Studies, and Science Education majors, admission is based on a sliding scale which is determined by the number of overall hours attempted at the time the student requests admission to the major.
0-30 hours  2.00 overall GPA
31-60 hours  2.10 overall GPA
61-90 hours  2.20 overall GPA
91+ hours  2.30 overall GPA

Transfer Student Information

  • Teacher Education majors outside of the College of Education
    • Agricultural Education requires a 2.50 overall GPA.
    • Family and Consumer Sciences Education requires a 2.30 overall GPA
    • Music Education requires a 2.50 overall GPA.
    • Art Education requires a 2.5 overall GPA.
    • Dance Education requires a 2.5 overall GPA.

Regents' Writing and Reading Skills Requirement

All students receiving an undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia are required to satisfy minimum requirements in both reading and writing skills, as set forth by the Board of Regents. Students must satisfy both the reading and writing components.

Permission to Overload

  • Overload requests are processed in the student's major department. The Office of Student Services processes overloads for First Year and Second Year students
  • General guidelines for overloads
    • Approval of advisor.
    • Completion of at least one semester of successful work at the University of Georgia.
    • Approval is subject to 2.5 cumulative GPA for seniors, 2.75 cumulative GPA for juniors, and 3.00 cumulative GPA for sophomores.
    • Applicant may not have a D or F grade in the previous semester.
  • Freshmen and first semester transfer students are not generally granted overloads.
  • For further clarification, please contact your academic advisor.

Changing Your School/Major

  • Complete a change of major form in The Student Services Office in 122 Aderhold Hall to declare a major or intended major in the College of Education.
  • Change of school/major forms are available in the office of the Dean in each school or college on the campus.
