COE Scholarship Information

The UGA College of Education offers several scholarship opportunities to UGA students accepted into their program of study in the College of Education. All students applying for COE scholarships must have completed a current FAFSA financial aid form. Please contact the UGA Office of Student Financial Aid at 706.542.6147 for any questions regarding FAFSA forms.

Students applying for a COE scholarship must submit the following items*:

  1. Completed original signed application form
  2. Typed double-spaced personal essay
  3. OASIS Financial Aid Award Letter
  4. Three (3) current letters of recommendation/reference

*All items listed above must be received by the deadline for the application to be considered.

Deadline for fall application: 12:00pm on the 3rd Friday in March.
Deadline for spring application: 12:00pm on the 3rd Friday in October.

Scholarships available for fall and fall/spring award:

Ruby Maude Anderson Scholarship
The Ruby Maude Anderson Scholarship was established through a gift of Miss Ruby Maude Anderson. A one year academic scholarship will be awarded for advanced study. This scholarship is for the advanced preparation of educational personnel at the secondary level in the state of Georgia. This scholarship is available to graduate students who are enrolled in a COE Teacher Education program. Candidates must have taught 5 or more years at the secondary level in the State of Georgia. Candidates must state their intention to make a career in secondary education in the state of Georgia. Preference will be accorded to candidates from Oconee and Clarke Counties. Proof of previous teaching experience in the state of Georgia must be provided.

Raven Buckley Memorial Scholarship
The Raven Buckley Memorial Scholarship was established in 2010 in memory of Raven Buckley. This scholarship is available to undergraduate students who are enrolled in a COE degree program. Students must have established financial need. Candidates must agree to allow the donor of this scholarship to receive a copy of their application materials. Their personal essay will be kept in a scrapbook by the donor. This is a condition of the award of this scholarship. Candidates must show evidence of community service. This scholarship is awarded for 1 semester.

COE Centennial Scholarship
The Centennial Scholarship was established as part of the celebration of the 100 year anniversary of the University of Georgia’s College of Education. The Centennial Scholarship is awarded each year to recognize a tradition of excellence in Education and all of its disciplines. This scholarship is available to undergraduate and graduate students who have at least 2 semesters remaining in the COE degree program who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance. Candidates must have an established financial need and must present evidence of leadership ability and professional interest. Scholarship is awarded to 1 graduate student and 1 undergraduate student for 1 semester.

Del Jones Memorial Scholarship
The Del Jones Memorial Scholarship was established in 1979 by bequest of Bannon Jones in memory of his daughter Del Jones. This scholarship is available to undergraduate and graduate students who are enrolled in a COE degree program. Candidates must be reliable, enthusiastic and show evidence of professional and service commitment. This scholarship is awarded for 2 semesters.

Jim Mann Family Scholarship
The Jim Mann Family Scholarship is to be awarded to a deserving student in the College of Education. This scholarship is available to undergraduate students in Early Childhood or Middle School Education who are at the junior level. Junior level is 61-90 hours. Students must have a GPA of a 3.0 or better. The candidate must show their intent to teach in the state of Georgia. This scholarship is awarded for 1 semester.

Mary Murphy Robinson Scholarship
The Mary Murphy Robinson was established in 1972 by bequest of Mr. Robinson. This scholarship is available to undergraduate students in a COE Teacher Education program who are at the senior level. Senior level is 90+ hours. Students with high GPA’s will be accorded preference. Candidates must be reliable, enthusiastic and show evidence of professional and service commitment for the promotion of specialization in the teaching field in the state of Georgia. This scholarship is for 2 semesters.

State Normal School Scholarship
The State Normal School Scholarships was established through a gift of the State Normal School (SNS) which later became the Georgia State Teachers College (GSTC). A one year academic scholarship will be awarded. This scholarship is available to undergraduate and graduate students who are enrolled in a COE Teacher Education program. Candidates must possess good moral character, reasonably high grades, and state their intentions of a career in teaching. Scholarship targets students of non-traditional age. Preference will be given to descendants of alumni of the SNS-GSTC. Students must have an established financial need. This scholarship is awarded for 2 semesters.

Student Teaching Scholarship
The College of Education Student Teaching Scholarship was established by the College of Education to help assist students during their student teaching semester. This scholarship is available to undergraduate and graduate students who are enrolled in a COE Teacher Education program and entering their student teaching semester. Students must have an established financial need. Candidates must state their intent to make a career in education in the state of Georgia. This scholarship is awarded for 1 semester.

Rachel Sibley Sutton Scholarship
The Rachel Sibley Sutton Scholarship was established in memory of Dr. Rachael Sibley Sutton for her distinguished career and leadership in Elementary Education. This scholarship is available to undergraduate and graduate students who are in the Early Childhood or Middle School Education programs. Minimum GPA required is 3.0 (undergraduate) and 3.5 (graduate). Students must have established financial need. Candidates must show evidence of definite plans for a career in Elementary Education (K-5) in the state of Georgia. This scholarship is for 2 semesters.
