Orientation and Advising - ACADEMIC ADVISING


Many of the majors in the College of Education have high demand (HD) status and require students to submit an application and/or meet other requirements for admittance into the major. Every student has “intended major” status until they are admitted into a major. Admission into UGA does not guarantee admittance into your major.

Minimum GPA Requirements for the College of Education

  • For entering freshmen, acceptance is determined by the UGA Faculty Admissions Committee.
  • Minimum transfer GPA requirements:

Communication Sciences & Disorders – HD 3.20 overall
Early Childhood Education – HD 2.80 in Areas I, II, III, cumulative and overall
English Education – HD 2.60 overall
Exercise and Sport Science – HD 2.75 overall
Health and Physical Education – HD 2.50 overall
Mathematics Education – HD 2.75 overall
Middle School Education – HD 2.80 cumulative and overall

Science Education 2.50 overall
Social Studies Education – HD 2.50 overall

For Recreation and Leisure Studies, and Science Education majors, admission is based on a sliding scale which is determined by the number of overall hours attempted at the time the student requests admission to the major.
0-30 hours 2.00 overall GPA
31-60 hours 2.10 overall GPA
61-90 hours 2.20 overall GPA
91+ hours 2.30 overall GPA
  • Teacher Education majors outside of the College of Education:

    Agricultural Education requires a 2.50 overall GPA.

    Family and Consumer Sciences Education requires a 2.30 overall GPA

    Music Education requires a 2.50 overall GPA.

    Art Education requires a 2.5 overall GPA.

    Dance Education requires a 2.5 overall GPA.
