Field / Clinical Experience - Field and Clinical Experiences
Assignments for observation and practicum are made cooperatively with the school district, the UGA program coordinator or class instructor, and the Office of Educational Field Experiences.
The Code of Ethics for Educators defines the professional behavior of educators in Georgia and serves as a guide for ethical conduct. The Professional Standards Commission has adopted standards that represent the conduct generally accepted by education professionals. The code protects the health, safety and general welfare of students and educators, ensures the citizens of Georgia a degree of accountability within the education profession, and defines unethical conduct justifying disciplinary sanction. (The Code of Ethics for Educators, August 15, 2005). For the entire brochure, visit www.gapsc.com and select the Ethics tab at the top of the page.
Students are not to attempt to find their own placement.
Students should not contact school district personnel until notified by the Office of Educational Field Experiences of a confirmed placement.
In case of inclement weather, students should follow the schedule of the school in which they are placed.
Students will not be placed in schools where they have relatives employed in any position.
Students may not serve as substitute teachers, paid or unpaid, during an observation or practicum placement. When a situation requires the cooperating teacher to be absent from work or from the classroom for an extended period of time, a substitute must be obtained by the school principal. The substitute teacher must be present in the classroom at all times.
If a student is employed as a parapro, s/he should contact the Office of Educational Field Experiences at 122B Aderhold.
Depending on the availability of placements, students may drive an hour or more one way for a placement.
When a confirmed placement is secured, students are sent notification to their UGA email account by the Office of Educational Field Experiences.
Confirmed placements are final.
