Community Immersion Sites

1. Barangay Sta Monica, Oton

This barangay is 11 km from Iliolo City and 6 km from the town proper. It has a total population of 2,637. Basically agricultural, the place is lowland with irrigation facilities. The farmers raise livestock and grow rice at least twice a year. There is an elementary school, parish church, a barangay health center, a cooperative, and other facilities like a water purification plant and radio station. The people belong to various organizations and associations. They practice sound environmental management systems but charcoal making is still one of the source so income. Sta. Monica has been a community site for two(2) years already.





2. Barangay Iniligan, Badiangan

It is a barangay with clean and sweet tasting water that keeps flwing throughout the year, from where it got its name in the local dialect ÒiligÓ. It is situated 37 km from WVSU and three km from the town proper. It has 5 smaller units or sitio. The entire barangay has a total land area of 254 hectares. It is basically a farming community. Its total population is 1503. Facilities in the barangay include an elementary school, chapel, a community center, public transportation, water supply, electricity and an instant ginger manufacturing cottage industry. The homes are surrounded by plants and proper waste management practices are observed. They have organized a cooperative and some are members of various civic and religious associations. Since all residents know each other, they all live in peace and harmony in the barangay. This year marks the fist time WVSU students did their community immersion in the barngay.





3. Barangay Tupol Oeste, Cabatuan

For three years, the barangay had community immersion students, being the birthplace of the course facilitator. It is 27 km from the University and only 2km from the town proper. It has a population of 500, with farming as the main source of livelihood. With rolling hills and plains, the residents grow rice, bananas, vegetables, fruit trees, and bamboo. It is served by a primary school, a barangay health center, public jeepneys, tricycle with electricity and partly served with water system.







4. Barangay Alimono, Passi City

The farthest from WVSU (75km) it is 11 km from Passi City. With rolling hiss and plains, the total land area is 14,229 hectares planted to sugarcane, rice, root crops and fruit trees. Its total population is 1,041. It has an elementary school. A few households have generator sets that have electricity every evening for three hours, while the rest have not been reached by electricity. Accessible by public utility jeepneys, a few families own big trucks that haul sugarcane to Passi Sugar Central. Most homes have jetmatic pumps for their water supply. A new irrigation system is being constructed with water from a river. Livestock are raised by the farmers. This is the second barangay in Passi that hosted our students.
