Community Immersion The Community Immersion Experience: "A Dialogue of Life" "Ugyon sa Paghanda Sang Manunudlo Paagi sa Pagbuyloganay Sang Pumuluyo kag buluthoan" (School and Community Collaboration in the Preparation of Prospective Elementary Science Teachers) Description In line with the project goal of developing a more authentic academic community learning experience in the preparation of elementary science teachers, community immersion, as a required course for prospective elementary science teachers, was developed and offered during the second semester of 2003. The WVS4 model of community immersion differs from the traditional service learning models. The academic learning experiences of students during the community immersion aims to prepare elementary science teachers to a)learn science content in the context of community life; b) apply science content to problem solving situations in a community setting; c) develop as reflective teachers; d) carry out service projects with rather than for the community, and e) develop relationships among peers, faculty and community members that are collaborative and reciprocal in benefits.
