Meeting Minutes

Betty Prickett opened the meeting at 10:00 a.m. She addressed the issue of whether to have a continuation of existing committees (Newsletter, Safety, Staff Awards/Social, Staff Lounge, T-Shirt). Betty gave a description of each committee and suggested that new prospects be contacted for those committees. Marsha Richmond agreed to work on the layout of the committee newsletter. LaNelle Davis agreed to join the T-Shirt committee. Elizabeth Platt, Judy Mote and Pam LaSalle signed up for the Staff Awards Committee.

SRG proposed sending out quarterly email updates of the committees for distributing information and also recruitment purposes.

It was noted that the Safety Committee should have a representative from each building. Betty Prickett and Ann Seagraves joined as reps for Dance and Ramsey. Linda Chester and Cindy Williams will represent River's Crossing and Sandy Smith and Elizabeth Platt Aderhold.

Another item addressed was the formation of a new committee, the Welcoming Committee. The group brainstormed on the idea and further discussion will continue in next month's SRG meeting. The idea that information would be accessible for newcomers via the website and a packet of information be presented to the newcomers possibly by the department's Office Manager. Ideas of what specific information should be in the packet will be brought in to the next SRG meeting.

Betty handed out information about the upcoming Staff Conference October 5 & 6, 2000 which will be held in Marietta, GA at Southern Polytechnic State University.

The matter of changing the semi-annual staff social to an annual social in order that extra funds be funneled towards the COE Staff Awards was addressed and the committee agreed to present the idea before Dean Castenell for approval.

Sandy Smith gave the committee updates from Staff Council meeting. Sige Burden is now in charge of Black Faculty/Staff/HR. Notes included the Child Care Committee which will distribute a survey to all UGA to determine the issues of UGA faculty/staff child care needs. The Workplace Violence Act and ideas for pooling sick leave were other items of interest. In addition, Elizabeth Pape is the "staff voice" for the Staff Council website and Sandy encouraged reps to alert their schools to visit the web page and submit ideas or articles to Elizabeth Pape.

The SRG bulletin board plan was presented and supported by Kirk Oliver and the proposed figures for installation will go to him for approval.

Changing and updating the SRG website was discussed and it was agreed that minutes from SRG meetings and any new business be posted on the website. Kristy Leonard in OIT will be contacted to begin this process.

One last item on the agenda was the topic of the upcoming open enrollment for insurance and that it will be important that COE faculty/staff have the opportunity for a question/answer session. Pam LaSalle offered to contact Louie Wyatt to present a question and answer session for COE. It was agreed upon that flyers be distributed to COE announcing when the session would be.
