Meeting Minutes

May 14, 2003
G-10 Aderhold Hall

Present: Rene Hammond, Sandy Smith, Julie Sartor, Cindy Molloy, Heidi Sartain, Janice Cieslak, Jeanine Meeler, Jacquee Rosumny

Before the meeting started Rene' handed out SRG Minutes from April 9, SRG Bylaws and the Agenda.

Committee Reports:

Safety: There was discussion on the tornado warning we had last week and how well it went. It was observed that some of the students and employees were leaving the building and going home. Discussion centered around ways to educate faculty, staff and students on ways to keep them safe; a) tornado drills; b) fire drills; c) have the safety committee people wear vests so they are more visible during a crisis; d) ensure all safety lines are in place, i.e., phone tree; e) safety meetings.
Staff Awards: It came, it was a success, and the comments were all positive. Feedback from everyone attending, which included over 100 faculty, staff and custodians, was fantastic. Our guest speakers George Hynd and Bob Hart were super, as well as remarks from Dean Castenell. Overall, the event was a success!

Service: Relay for Life! "The Goodtime Gang" The RFL meeting was after the SRG meeting. No report at the moment. The RFL is this Friday. Cindy will have more to report later.
Newsletter: It was suggested that the last newsletter include the Staff Awards and the Relay for Life. Is it possible to do the pictures in color? Rene' is going to work with Janice on some of the write-ups. Concerning the photos, check with Anita Miller to see what she has compared to the ones Janice has.

USCR Report: Staff Benefits for Partners ®¢ The example that came out of this was ensuring everyone stayed informed of what was going on ahead of time and during. From now on the agenda will be posted on the website to keep everyone informed.

Capital Dental Insurance - This is a supplemental insurance plan. This is not the original BOR Dental insurance plan. You can find it on the Medical Benefits website.

Commerative Newsletter (10years) will be coming out. They will be calling around to get a feeling of what the people know of the Staff Council. Shared Sick Leave Pool - Something they are looking at. Definition: Those with a great deal of sick would be allowed to pool their sick leave for those hardship cases to use.

It has been suggested that a representative from the SRG Team to have a representative to attend the Staff Council meeting in June.

OLD BUSINESS:

  1. Discussion over whether or not to have a new photo taken of the SRG group. We concluded that because of time constraints, we would keep the one we currently have and possibly have a new one done at the beginning of new terms/fiscal year.
  2. Recap of meeting with Dr. Jeri Benson: Pleased with the attendance and the feedback. From this a staff committee has been formed and has become active and has turned in some information already to the Restructure Committee. Rene appointed Mary Cash to form this committee. Her committee created a survey to send out to all the staff in the college for feedback regarding current job responsibilities. Dr. Benson approved this survey prior to distribution. There was a glitch in getting it out, because of a software problem, but it was resolved quickly and the survey was sent out. During discussion of this, it was discovered that not everyone in COE Staff received the survey, because not everyone is on the e-mail list.

NEW BUSINESS:

  1. COE Restructure: The deadline for proposals from departments, faculty, staff and students are due to the Restructure Committee my May 21. Betty commented that when the committee begins to review these proposals, they need to include the staffing needs. There was more discussion on what was going on now. It was shared that some employees (school office staff) were being impacted almost immediately (as of July 1) with physical moves. The COE restructure will have impact on all staff whether it is direct or indirect.

Next meeting scheduled for Wednesday, June 11, 10:00 am, room G-10 Aderhold.
