Committee Reports:

Newsletter: No report.

Safety: Sandy Smith and Jackie Rosumny attended the Environmental Safety meeting. Sandy suggested that COE get an updated booklet for emergencies. A sample flip chart of instructions on procedures for safety measures in emergencies was passed around to the committee. The flip chart booklet had sections of information for different types of emergencies so it could quickly be located and handy to use. Copies could be made for each office in the College of Education. Sandy reported that signs need to be posted around the College of Education instructing people where to go in cases of certain emergencies. Russ Dukes is the fire safety contact person. Sandy has spoken with Dean Castenell about the need for future fire drills perhaps beginning Maymester. The alarm would be set in advance to go off at a certain time. An alarm was sounded earlier this year in Aderhold, but because the system failed for reasons unknown, emergency personnel were not alerted. This causes concern for improved maintenance of the alarm system and better fire drill procedures need to be put into place.

Staff Awards: Betty reported that the caterer and menu for the Staff Awards ceremony has been selected. Reminders for COE staff to attend the ceremony were sent out. Mrs. Adams will attend and present this year's award. There will be a Comment Card enclosed in this year's program. A new tradition has been added this year to the awards ceremony called "Passing of the Baton of Excellence." The passing of the baton will be conducted at the end of the ceremony where the previous year's COE Staff Award for Excellence recipient passes the baton to this year's recipient. The concept of the baton will be explained at the ceremony.

T-shirt: Betty reported that the t-shirt chair, Dave Wynne, will begin T-shirt sales in the next couple of weeks and packets will go out next week for orders. They will need volunteers to help sell t-shirts. The color and type of the t-shirts were discussed. Sample type and colors for the t-shirts will be displayed at the tables where orders will be taken.

Chair Report: Betty reported that an election is due for a new representative in the School of Health & Human Performance and she will have a report for the next SRG meeting. Ballots for the new chair and vice-chair will be distributed at the May meeting. The new officers will serve a one year term. Betty also distributed a brochure on the upcoming Administrative Professionals Day Conference to be held during Secretaries Week.

USCR Report: Sandy will draft a proposal for custodial computer support and present it at the next University Staff Council meeting.

Old Business: No report.

New Business: The issue was raised on how to deter smokers from standing too near the outside front and rear doorway areas of the College of Education. There was a concern that people who walk in and out of the building are subjected to the dangers of second hand smoke. Ideas of how to resolve the problem will continue at the next meeting.

Next meeting will be April 12, 2001 at 10:00 a.m.
