Newsletter Committee
Newsletter deadline is November 16th and will be made available online at the SRG website. An email will be sent to the COE Memo and COE Staff listservs. A hardcopy will be printed for the display case.
Staff Awards Committee
Committee needs to meet to decide on nomination/election process and theme.
3. Special committee reports
Social Committee
Committee was disappointed with turnout at staff social-approximately 30-35 people participated. One cause for the low turnout may have been that email reminders were not sent to the correct COE listservs. This created a discussion on COE listserv updates. Who updates the listservs for the College? This led to a larger discussion around the creation of orientation packets for office managers to distribute to new College employees. Additional feedback regarding the fall social was to get information out to the SRG listserv for both socials and distribution of the newsletter. Also, the spring social should not be in the same month as the staff awards. “Real” food and door prizes seem to be a big draw. Run a theme with basket decorating for spring social.
ACTION: David Avin agreed to meet with Krista Vanderpool to get information on listservs. He will send an email to the office managers and create a sample form for updates.
Staff Lounge Committee
No report.
4. Report of Chair
Academic Cabinet Representation
Shea is meeting to with the Dean to discuss the lack of staff representation at Department Head meetings. Currently, the SRG Chair is invited to 3 meetings during the academic year.
Shea’s email to Dean Castenell was tabled until the 12/6/06 Academic Cabinet meeting. At that meeting, Shea will address the issue as to why staff are not allowed to attend SRG meetings and functions?
Toys for Tots Drive
Caroline Wooten volunteered to run the Toys for Tots. Collection boxes will be placed in the departments and on the first and ground floors.
Staff Council
The Statewide SRG Conference at Fort Valley State had a low turnout. Approximately 64 people were in attendance, including seven from UGA. The hosts at the conference had to cancel activities due to the low turnout. One of the recommendations from the conference was to allow 90 minutes a week for physical fitness and exercise. A proposal is being sent to the University Staff Council. The conference will be at Southern Poly next year.
New Business
