The Sport Instruction Laboratory in the Department of Physical Education and Sport Studies conducts the Georgia Physical Education Teachers Workshop each summer. The Workshop provides practicing physical education teachers with the latest curricular and instructional ideas during a week-long summer professional development course. The Workshop is designed to provide professional development opportunities for health and physical education teachers in the state of Georgia . Those who complete the Workshop receive four Professional Learning Units (PLUs) that are essential in the recertification for all teachers in Georgia .

Long a staple of professional development for physical education teachers across the state, the Workshop also serves the international community. Since 1999, the Workshop has welcomed physical education teachers from Accra , Ghana to the Workshop. Here they share ideas and their perspectives on physical education in their country with teachers from Georgia . Furthermore, they are able to take new ideas from their counterparts in the United States back to their classrooms in Africa .
