**Please note: there is a known problem with accessing a secure site using Netscape version 4.05 due to a Y2K bug. Since we require secure access to the SETWEB Student Area, version 4.05 of Netscape is not recommended, however other version numbers of the Netscape browser should work fine.

Also note: America Online (AOL) browsers may or may not work when trying to access our Horizon Wimba Chat area. We require Java in order to participate in Chat and have experienced problems with AOL browsers. AOL browsers are not recommended.

Adobe Acrobat Reader (download) - enable you to open and read PDF documents.

Printer - Either a laser printer or inkjet printer is preferable to print out some course materials or documents.

Internet Service Provider (ISP)

In order for you to access SETWEB courses, an Internet access is a requirement. Some of the companies that provide internet service include Mindspring, Earthlink, America Online (AOL), BellSouth, Charter Communications, Intermedia, Netzero, FreeDSL, your local ISP, etc. These companies are often associated with other products, typically phone service or cable TV service.

**Please Note:

Though you have choices between “dial-up” or “broadband” services, IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU INSTALL “BROADBAND” INTERNET ACCESS. This will not only save you a great deal of time loading course content, but will also ensure better sound quality during online chat.

E-mail

Email is the primary method of contact among SETWEB administrators, instructors, students, and technical support. The UGA e-mail account (your_myid@uga.edu) is provided for all enrolled students. For more information about UGA email, please visit http://ugamail.uga.edu/about.html

The SETWEB program also creates a mailing list called “listserv” for communicating with all students who have registered the program, based on students UGA email accounts. If you are also using other Web-based email systems such as Yahoo Mail, Excite Mail, Microsoft Hotmail, or Gmail, please check your UGA email on a regular basis to ensure that you will receive important announcement form SETWEB.
