Dr. Janna Dresden: Dr. Dresden has a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from UGA. She has worked as a teacher in preschool and elementary school settings and as a director of after school and day care programs.  Her experience doing staff development and pre-service teacher education includes positions as Education Coordinator for Hull House in Chicago and instructor at Northern Illinois University.  Most recently, Janna spent 10 years teaching kindergarten and first grade in local Title I schools and two years as assistant professor of Early Childhood Education at Auburn University.

Dr. Kathy Thompson Kathy Thompson is a Public Service Associate in the Department of Elementary and Social Studies Education where she is a faculty member in the Middle School Education Program, teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses and leading outreach efforts in Georgia schools. Kathy is a 2008-2009 Service-Learning Senior Scholar at The University of Georgia. She also serves as a faculty liaison between the College of Education and local school districts in the COE Office of School Engagement Initiatives. In 2007, she was named a Service-Learning Fellow by the Office of Service-Learning and facilitated a Faculty Learning Community, sponsored by UGA’s Center for Teaching and Learning, focused on conducting research related to service-learning. In 2006, Kathy received a University of Georgia Research Foundation grant to address issues of poverty in Griffin-Spalding County via service-learning with middle school teachers and students. She provides service-learning professional development to P-12 Georgia educators and serves on the Georgia Department of Education Learn & Serve Advisory Board. Kathy earned a Ph.D. in Middle School Education from The University of Georgia in 1999.

Dr. Lew Allen:  Lew is an academic professional affiliated with the Department of Elementary and Social Studies Education. His research and outreach efforts focus on how to promote schools as democratic learning communities that are student-oriented and focused on improving teaching and learning for all.  He also partners with schools that work to provide all students with strong academic and social skills, problem solving abilities, and civic attitudes that will equip them to work for a better democratic life for all. He received his Ed.D in Administration from the University of Georgia.

Dr. Julie Moore: Dr. Moore is an Assistant Professor in Instructional Technology at the University of Georgia. A former high school math teacher, she has degrees in Secondary Education from the University of Texas and the University of North Texas, and a Ph.D. in Instructional Systems Technology from Indiana University. Her primary research interests include technology integration in K-12 settings and supporting teacher learning and growth through collaborative models of professional development including the use of online technologies. She teaches graduate classes in the Learning, Design, and Technology program and works as Co-Director and design team member of the BRIDGE – an online project especially aimed at meeting the resource, learning, and professional connection needs of beginning teachers (www.teachersbridge.org).

Dr. Sharon Blackwell Jones : Dr. Jones has a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from The Pennsylvania State University. She teaches in the Dept. of Counseling Human Development Services. She is the faculty liaison to Gaines Elementary, a partnership school, with the School Engagement Initiative. She is interested in multicultural education and academic achievement for African-American boys.

Marianne Causey: Marianne Causey taught in the public schools for 31 years prior to becoming an adjunct instructor in the College of Education.  Serving both as a school counselor and as a middle school teacher, Ms. Causey fostered a strong, collaborative relationship between UGA and classroom teachers in Clarke County Schools.  With a strong vested interest in her community, Ms. Causey has focused her career on linking families and schools through home visits and parent involvement.  A leader of workshops on classroom management and teaching strategies for all learners, Ms. Causey has been a lecturer to teacher groups of all levels.  Ms. Causey earned her Ed.S. in Middle School Education from the University of Georgia in 2003.  The Service Learning courses she now teaches affords UGA students creative, hands-on experiences working with students in the local schools.

Pat Waldrip
:  (Grad assistant) Ms. Waldrip is a doctoral student in the department of Language and Literacy Education. She has worked as a teacher and literacy coach in Clarke County schools for sixteen years. She has taught first and fourth grades, and also EIP reading and math in grades K-5.

Nick Hussain
: (Grad assistant) Mr. Hussain is a masters degree student in Middle Grades Education. He has a B.S.Ed. in Social Science Education and a B.A. in History. He is certified in Social Studies for grades 7-12 and is working toward certification Mathematics and Social Studies in middle grades (grades 4-8).
