A course designed for school principals, with emphasis on the management of custodial care and preventive maintenance of the school and its learning environments. EDUL 6025 is especially planned for students pursuing the L-5 add on certificate in Educational Leadership.

Provides the conceptual framework for employing computing in the design of schools, uses emerging digital repertoire in modeling schools, image processing and publishing on the internet. Reviews of school architecture and the influence of design on student learning are emphasized.

(EDUL 8260) Designing Outdoor Learning Environments for Schools (2)
Design of outdoor learning spaces for schools that fit curriculum specifications for playgrounds, nature trails, and other environments. Emphasis is placed on the relationships between learning goals and activities and school design.

Principles, concepts, processes and practices of planning and evaluating educational facilities. Student population forecasting, the school survey, school design, and needs assessment are emphasized.

(EDUL 8270) Managing and Evaluating School Design and Construction (4)
Planning safe, secure, developmentally appropriate schools; emphasis placed on the impact of flexible scheduling on student performance; planning the design phase of schools, classrooms, and outdoor learning areas; evaluating architectural designs as compared to educational specifications; and reviewing the construction phase to ensure proper opening date for the school. Effects of school architecture on student learning are emphasized. Project planning and management are introduced.
