Mourning Dove

This open area provided an unusual spot for a dove's nest. A rare find, the nest rested under a small hickory nut seedling. At 3:00 pm, the shade still covered the two eggs. Because the area is well stocked by armadillos, raccoons, opossums, red fox, coyote, and other animals interested in eggs, the chance for a successful hatch appeared doubtful.
