Mourning Dove

Over the hill from the pitcher plants and down the "old railroad" about one-half mile from the beaver pond, this mourning dove nest was located in an open area surrounded by black jack oaks and black berry bushes.

This open area provides an unusual spot for a dove's nest.

The open area allows the dove an easy exit should a predator move too close to the nest.
