The Beavers' Dam

Beavers' Pond in May

Approximately 25 yards North of the "saw mill" operation is the site from which the crew viewed the beavers' home. In order to see the "beaver mansion" it was necessary to stand on the dam. As a result, minimal damage was done to the pliable structure and water spilled over. The steady flow was moderate, although little structural damage was done. This is a good example of the fragile environmental system in and around the pond.

A steady flow of "spill over" water was created by foot prints on the dam.

Overnight, the flow was halted with lily roots, mud, and per-cut sticks (see vertical sticks at the left). Deliberate action such as this reveals that beavers are planners, designers, architects, and construction workers.
