The Beavers' Saw Mill

Beavers' Pond in May

Near the edge of the dam these new signs of "beaver work" were found. This "work in progress" appeared to have been done the previous night. From these fresh signs of work we can conclude that the beavers are performing logging and "saw mill" operations. Behaviors such as this exhibit their excellent planning and architectural skills.

The fallen "black gum" tree points toward the pond.

This is another view of the fallen tree in the above scene. The "saw" cut is approximately 3.5 feet long (8 inches in diameter), making a heavy saw-log for these construction workers to carry over the dam and into the beavers's 7 acre estate.

Another view of the stump covered with gum. Note the wood chips on the ground.
