International Travel
Funds from the Dean’s Office portion of salary savings will be set aside to support international travel where the faculty member is the first or solo author of an accepted research paper. These funds will be administered through the Research Office. Faculty members should discuss proposed international travel with their department heads to determine what contribution will be made by the department from departmental sources such as in-directs or salary release. Some departmental contribution is required for every trip. The department head must indicate the departmental contribution and provide written support for the requested trip and sign off on all requests first.
Using the form from the Office of the Vice President of Research (http://www.ovpr.uga.edu/docs/forms/iga/FT-Application.pdf ), the faculty member and department head will describe the nature and importance of the international meeting and list the amount of the departmental contribution. Attach the letter or email communicating the acceptance of the paper.
These requests will be due in the Office of the Associate Dean for Research the second Tuesday in December and the fourth Tuesday in February, May, and September, or the last working day leading up to these deadlines, to review prior to the deadlines for international travel requests set by the Office of the Vice President of Research (see table below). The $12,000 set aside in the College for international travel will be divided into four travel periods with awards of up to $1,000 available within each travel period. This should insure that funds are available for spring semester travel opportunities. Requests will be reviewed by the Dean’s Cabinet and results communicated in time to submit requests to the Office of the Vice President of Research.
Application Procedures and Documentation
- Faculty member completes the OVPR Foreign Travel Application (which includes evaluation by the department head or director) http://www.ovpr.uga.edu/docs/forms/iga/FT-Application.pdf
- Documentation of funding provided by requestor’s department.
- Copy (not original) of Travel Authority showing estimated total cost of trip or an estimate of trip costs.
- Documentation of participation must be provided with the application (for example, copy of invitations or acceptance). This must be included or your application will be returned.
- Submit this information to Gabrielle Mason (gmason@uga.edu) in the COE Research Office by 5:00 pm on the deadline date.
- Applications will be reviewed by the Dean’s Cabinet within a week of the deadline date. Notice of available funds will be sent to applicants. Faculty will be responsible for submitting their final application to the OVPR by the specified deadline dates identified on the following website (http://www.ovpr.uga.edu/docs/forms/iga/FT-Application.pdf
Notes to Remember:
- Must be full-time, permanent faculty member
- Applications received after 5:00 p.m. on the deadline date will be considered at the next deadline
- Applications that are submitted without documentation of participation or department head evaluation and support will be returned to the applicant and will not be reviewed until the documentation is provided
- Some departmental contribution is required for every trip.
- Include a copy of the travel authority or an estimate of travel costs
