Administrative Unit
The Institute is located administratively in COE Dean’s Office and reports to the Associate Dean for Research.
Appointments in the Institute
The Director is appointed by the Dean of the COE. The appointment of the Director is reviewed annually by the Dean. As part of the Defined Review Process (described below) the Advisory Board (described below) provide an annual review to the Dean of the performance of the Institute.
Advisory Board
The Institute has an Advisory Board with responsibilities for recommending policies for the Institute, providing an annual review of the Institute Director, and recommending spending priorities for infrastructure support. Members of the Board are nominated by the Director from among the Directors of the R&D Centers in the Institute, the Chairs of Study Groups in the Institute, and from other scientists based on their interest in and service to the Institute. Appointments to the Advisory Board are made by the COE Dean. Initial appointments to the Advisory Board are for a three-year period.
