Red Clay Writing Project
Athens, Georgia

As this was my first NWP convention, I did not know what to expect.  I had good people looking out for me.  The beginning session was most informative and I was pleased to learn that NWP Federal Funding would not be cut but increased for the coming year.  Already TCs are making plans to once again visit Washington to lobby and thank members of Congress for supporting NWP.

I attended a session that I thought would be helpful in my new role as Instructional Coach.  One of my responsibilities is to plan whole staff professional learning.  This is not an easy task to do alone.  The attachment gives a brief overview of how one writing project, Western Pennsylvaina, and the county of New Chapel, formed a three year initiative, funded by title 2A money, to improve writing instruction in grades K-5.

The presenters were very honest in s! tating up front that there was the money and there was complete support and buy in from the county for this long range project...not something one can always count on.
