Types of presentations

Proposals may report findings of particular studies relevant to this year's theme and on topics directly related to qualitative research methods, teaching qualitative methods, and personal journeys as researchers. Types of presentations include:

Individual Papers (20 minutes)

A scholarly examination of a topic of interest to qualitative researchers.

Symposia (90 minutes)

A symposium is composed of participants who deliver brief presentations based on prepared papers on a common theme. A chair and a discussant should be identified.

Panels (90 minutes)

A panel discusses a topic as a group rather than through formal individual presentations, thereby allowing more direct give and take. A chair should be identified on the cover sheet. Although panels have less need for a discussant than symposia, a discussant can be identified if the organizer wishes.

Alternative Presentations (90 minutes)

Proposals that do not fit into the above categories, such as performance pieces, video productions, debates, photo assemblages, or other creative endeavors will be considered. A limited number of alternative presentations for the conference will be accepted.

Workshop Presentations (90 minutes)

A session used to teach or expand skills or approaches. A limited number of workshop presentations for the conference will be accepted.

Roundtable Presentations (90 minutes)

Informal discussion between paper presenter and a small audience. A room will be designated for multiple concurrent roundtables.

Poster Presentations

Display of completed or in progress research. Poster presentations will take place on the concourse adjacent to the meeting rooms.
