Whit Davis Math Learning Community

In listening to K-2 teachers implement Investigations, we saw a need for more support in constructivist math. The John Van de Walle book appealed to us for its ease of use and depth of information. We envision this Learning Community taking a Read – Implement – Review approach to this book.

  • Teachers would read a chapter relevant to their immediate instruction.
  • They would implement something from the chapter. This could be as
    simple as using one of the quick activities on a regular basis, or as
    complex as changing their approach to teaching facts based on Chapter 11.
  • They would share the lesson, samples of student work, and the impact
    the lesson had on instruction at the next meeting.
