I am currently an Associate Professor in Learning, Design, and Technology within the Department of Career and Information Studies. I received both the M.A. Ed. in 1987 and an Ed.D in 1989 in Curriculum and Instruction from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Prior to coming to Georgia in 1989, I taught mathematics and computer science in public schools and in a private international school in Venezuela. I am one of the founders of the LPSL at UGA. I have had funded projects with the U.S. Army Research Institute, SabreLearning FIPSE grant, USDA, and other funding agencies. All of the work is focused on cognitive applications of technology, learning theory, motivation theory, instructional theory, simulations, serious games, and multicultural perspectives on learning. My books include multiple volumes of the Educational Media and Technology Yearbook with M.A. Fitzgerald, V. J. McClendon and R.M. Branch, Emerging Perspectives on Learning, Teaching, with Techn! ology, and the World Almanac of Educational Technologies.
