I am currently an Associate Professor of Educational Psychology. I received both the M.A. Ed. in 1987 and an Ed.D in 1989 in Curriculum and Instruction from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Prior to coming to Georgia in 1989, I taught mathematics and computer science in public schools and in a private international school in Venezuela. I am one of the founders of the LPSL at UGA. I have had funded projects related to intelligent tutoring with the U.S. Army Research Institute, work with at-risk middle school age children developing multimedia documents that are published both as a CD-ROM and as HTML documents, work with SabreLearning conducting case studies of learners who experience all of their learning through the web, and my current project is to establish a partnership with two Brazilian universities as part of a FIPSE grant. While I partnered with the Army Research Institute, Clarke Middle School, iXL, and SabreLearning in the past, I am currently partnering with Universidade Federal do CearĂ¡ and Universidade Estadual Paulista. My current research interest is focused on cognitive applications of technology, learning theory, motivation theory, instructional theory and multicultural perspectives on learning. My books include multiple volumes of the Educational Media and Technology Yearbook with M.A. Fitzgerald, V. J. McClendon and R.M. Branch, Emerging Perspectives on Learning, Teaching, with Technology, and the World Almanac of Educational Technologies.
