Scholarly Interests and Activity

I am interested in literary/aesthetic theory, especially as this work is connected with literary reading in both academic and non-academic settings. Important questions for me focus on the relationship between schooling and life-long reading. Who are the life-long readers? How does one become a life-long reader? Why/how do adults use reading to make a difference in their lives? I am currently engaged in several research projects the overall purpose of which is to document why/how adults and young adults use literature circles and other types of informal discussion to enhance their experiences as readers. Related questions that interest me focus on the definition of literary reading as an "activity" in academic contexts, the definition of "scholarly" as opposed to non-scholarly reading practices, and the definition of "literature circles" as a resource for classroom teachers.
