Michael Childs is Director of Public Information. He provides leadership in increasing public awareness as to how faculty in the College contribute to society through their research and other scholarly activities. He maintains strong ties to major media, develops communication plans to publicize the College's research, instruction and service, and responds to queries from the media and other public and private constituencies. He founded and directs the COE's award-winning magazine, "Education," and online news site,"coeNEWS."

He joined the COE in 1998 after 20 years as an award-winning reporter and editor in daily newspapers in Alabama, Mississippi and Georgia -- 16 of those years with the Athens Banner-Herald. Childs received his B.A. in journalism from Auburn University.
