Karen E. Watkins is a Professor in Adult Education and Human Resource and Organizational Development in the College of Education at The University of Georgia. Previously, Dr. Watkins was an Associate Professor of Educational Administration at The University of Texas at Austin where she directed the graduate program in Adult and Human Resource Development Leadership. Research foci for Dr. Watkins have been in the areas of human resource and organizational development. Watkins is the author or co-author of over 70 articles and chapters, and 7 books. Watkins and colleague Victoria Marsick developed and validated the organizational survey, Dimensions of the Learning Organization, which was the focus of a recent issue of Advances in Developing Human Resources entitled “Making Learning Count: Demonstrating the Value of A Learning Culture.” Watkins also co-authored with Marsick the book, Sculpting the Learning Organization, and she is a noted consultant in business and industry.
Dr. Watkins was voted Scholar of the Year by the Academy of Human Resource Development; served as president of the Academy of Human Resource Development from 1994-1996; and she was named a distinguished graduate by The University of Texas at Austin, Community College Leadership Program. In 2003, Dr. Karen E. Watkins was inducted into the International Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame.
