Jennifer Hauver James is an Associate Professor, Graduate Coordinatorr in the Social Studies Education Program. Her research explores various dimensions of teacher biography as they influence pedagogical decision making, in particular as they create and limit opportunities for democratic education. A continuing thread of her research is investigating normative constructs of gender as they shape women’s teaching identities and practice. More recently, she is engaged in studies investigating the intersection of teachers’ religious and professional identities. She is particularly interested in how this intersection influences teachers’ relationships with formal and hidden curricula, students, families and communities.
