My current focus is on building probability models to describe complex behavior relevant to problems in education. My work intersects statistics, statistical machine learning, psychometrics, and the science of learning; and has spanned mixed membership models including latent Dirichlet al- location, social network models, cognitive diagnosis models, item response theory, and functional data analysis. Educational applications have ranged from large-scale evaluations of how teachers use online professional development tools, to small experiments evaluating how children estimate numerical magnitude.
