She received her Ph.D. in Language Education at The University of Georgia in 2001. She has been a classroom teacher in the Clarke County and Barrow County public schools for fourteen years and was named teacher of the year for Clarke County and runner-up teacher of the year for the state of Georgia (1988-89). For three years, she directed the School Research Consortium, a primary strand of the National Reading Research Center at UGA. She has extensive experience in teacher education and involvement in school reform. Her research interests include qualitative, classroom-based, literacy research connected to issues of induction, professional development, and school culture.
