She received her Ph.D. in Curriculum, Teaching, and Educational Policy from Michigan State University. Before receiving her doctorate, she taught elementary school in North Carolina and Virginia. Her research primarily focuses on issues of equity in mathematics education, particularly in early childhood contexts. She is currently involved in a study looking at the resources that children in a rural preschool draw on in their development of mathematical literacy.
