Outreach & Engagement - COE Impacting Policy


The College of Education is positioned to respond to requests for information from policymakers at all levels.  The faculty of the College has the expertise and, in many cases, the readily available research findings to provide policymakers the necessary information to guide decision-making.  Various papers were developed in response to this request.

Recent responses to policymakers…..

In response to legislation proposed by the Governor’s office during the 2009 legislative session, the University System of Georgia’s Board of Regents requested assistance from the College of Education on a review of the literature on the topics of impact of postgraduate teacher preparation, teacher evaluation, teacher compensation.  The following documents provide the information gathers in response to this request.

Lawmakers were given a meta-analysis of research on the impact of higher degrees on teacher performance and student achievement compiled by the National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ).  This paper was was written in response to this meta-analysis and shared with Georgia legislators as they considered changes to the teacher pay schedule.
