The old ivory tower is changing, and we're changing with it. One of the primary roles of the OIT Instructional Services unit is to enhance, support and promote alternative modes of instruction. We call this F.D.I. Following are some of the F.D.I. activities we support:
WebCT; we can help you create your WebCT course, or help you navigate your way through it. Your UGA MyID is your way into WebCT. Request your MyID
ElementK; need to increase your geek factor? UGA and the ElementK folks have partnered to provide you with a virtual worlds of courses to improve your knowledge. learn more about ElementK
Horizon Live; yup, got it.
Video Conferencing; OIT offers three flavors of this advanced telecommunications medium. (Baskin Robbins may beat us on ice cream flavors, but they're nowhere when it comes to video conferencing.) Contact the Media Desk in 232 Aderhold, or call 2-8007, to find out more about video conferencing.
IP-based conferencing. This is the emerging standard and allows us to connect to any like system, with minimal cost to you. Our IP-based system is in 631 Aderhold.
ISDN-based conferencing. This system uses bundled phone lines to connect the video units. Long distance charges do apply. The ISDN system is housed at River's Crossing.
The Georgia Statewide Academic and Medical System (GSAMS). Yes, GSAMS is still kicking, and is still available for your use. Some charges may apply. The GSAMS system is also located at River's Crossing
The Media Desk also has two Polycom Teleconference telephones available for checkout to provide for group telephone calls. These use a standard telephone jack and allow a small group (seminar sized) to participate in a phone call.
