About OIT - Dr. Sandi Glass

Dr. Sandi GlassSandi Glass is a technology professional who has championed both instructional and information technology for K-12 and Higher Education.  Her first experience supporting education included the development of media for instruction and professional development.  As she captured “Best Practices” in the classroom, Dr. Glass learned first hand about the power of technology and curriculum integration.

As desktop computers became connected to powerful networks and the Internet enabled any time and any place learning, Dr. Glass focused on the use of digital content.   Convergence brought sound, text and video to the classroom and changed the instructional experience by providing a more authentic and interactive learning environment.  Dr. Glass’s interest in media development and instructional technology led to graduate studies that culminated in a Ph.D. from Georgia State University.  Her dissertation research focused on the use of networking technology to assess teacher technology competencies.  Dr. Glass continues her professional development and is certified in Total Quality Management and Six Sigma.  She recently completed the Harvard Management Development Program.

Dr. Glass gained business and marketing experience at BellSouth.  Her research and academic background enabled her to create effective technology programs and solutions for K-12 and Higher Education.  Her goal was to create a digital learning environment where educators could focus on student achievement, safe and secure schools, professional development for teachers, and improved communication.  Her work included development of resources for teachers and students accessed through the BellSouth Education Gateway and partnerships with Jane Goodall, ThinkQuest, and ISTE.

Dr. Glass currently directs the Office of Information Technology for the College of Education at the University of Georgia.  She and her staff provide information and instructional resources through instructional services, application development, special projects, client services and infrastructure support.  Her goal is to continue creating a technology rich environment for teachers and students through the innovative use of technology and access to information.  Her team recently created a wireless network for the college and is expanding flexible delivery of instruction through online applications and IP video solutions.
