About OIT Client Services, Infrastructure and Standards

Security – The foremost concern of OIT is providing a secure environment for our data and network traffic.  Our security efforts consists of SANS security training, adhering to UGA and NIST security policies and best practices, documentation, business continuity and disaster recovery plans, and the COE wide Data and Security Liaison committee.

Networking Infrastructure – Instruction, research, and outreach functions of the College are supported by a network infrastructure that provides a (behind the scenes) robust connection to the internet, email, and network resources.  Our infrastructure is one of the best on campus and paves the way for future innovations.

Server Administration – Server configuration and maintainence are provided to ensure that College wide applications are consistently available.  We currently manage Windows, Netware, Linux, and Mac OS X servers that provide COE wide printing, file sharing, web hosting, database access, advising, media center checkouts, and remote administration.

Desktop Support – The College of Education is home to over 2500 desktops and laptops.  We provide hardware quotes, upgrades, and repairs.  We also install software, virus protection, and OS updates.  If you need assistance for you UGA owned computer, please contact our helpdesk at 542-4357 or submit a work ticket at: http://www.coe.uga.edu/oit/help/support/remedy.html

Wireless Networking – Wireless access is provided to almost 100% of the COE in the River’s Crossing, Ramsey, and Aderhold buildings.  There is also coverage outside of the Aderhold building.  Our wireless network is PAWS compatible and your MyID provides you access.

Instructional Computer Lab Support – Nine computer labs are available for students and faculty.  These labs provide general and specialized software utilized in COE coursework.  When the labs are not scheduled for class use, they are available to the general student population using a MyID for authentication.

Classroom Technology Support – There are over 40 classrooms that serve general COE purposes.  Each of these classrooms contain an up to date computer, lcd projector, screen, vcr, AV cabinet/podium, and some rooms contain a document camera.  If you have any questions about technology in the classrooms, please contact our helpdesk at 542-4357 or submit a work ticket at: http://www.coe.uga.edu/oit/help/support/remedy.html

Technology Recommendation and Quotes – The OIT will happily provide technology  recommendations and quotes.  We offer purchasing expertise on a variety of hardware and software that can easily blend into our business environment.
