About OIT |
About OIT - Barry RobinsonBarry Robinson is a Higher Education information technology professional who has steadily campaigned to increase faculty, staff, and student access to technology resources while improving the security of our data. His experience has included being a Software Consultant, Project Manager, Y2K preparedness officer, IT Help Desk Manager, and Systems Administrator. As technology has become more mainstream and vital to the daily needs of users, Barry understands the appropriate response building professional, standards based network infrastructure as the backbone of our technology. While a professional network infrastructure dramatically improves uptime for network resources such as the internet, shared files, and email, there are also indirect benefits. A professional infrastructure enables higher education users to be “early adopters” of new, network intensive technologies. Also, grant writers have the opportunity to position themselves better when their institution has large bandwidth networks. Barry currently manages the Client Services, Infrastructure, and Standards Unit of the Office of Information Technology for the College of Education at the University of Georgia. His Masters in Business Administration has helped him to understand the need for a balanced relationship between solid infrastructure foundations and leading edge technologies. He and his staff ensure that the technology resources are configured properly and position the faculty, staff, and students to be among the best prepared anywhere.
