What is NSSLHA?
NSSLHA is the only official national student
association recognized by our field's national organization, ASHA (American
Speech-Language-Hearing Association). ASHA is the guiding force behind
curriculum standards and all professional standards in our field. It bestows
the accreditation earned in school and official CCC (Certificate of Clinical
Competence). Movement from NSSLHA to ASHA membership is the logical step
to take after you are awarded your Master's degree and prepare to move fully
into your profession.
What are NSSLHA Activities?
The University of Georgia NSSLHA Chapter participates in several fundraisers
in order to contribute money to the Katie Turner Foundation. During
the 2002-2003 semesters, the members of NSSLHA published a cook book
in which profits were donated to Katie Turner. This year NSSLHA
will also be raising money to donate to Operation Smile. We also
volunteer at bi-annual free hearing screenings in the UGA Clinic and at
the Seratoma Christmas Tree sale. We are currently selling Chick-Fil-A
calendars.
What does NSSLHA offer and how do I join?
NSSLHA offers student the choice of two ASHA
journals, the annual NSSLHA journal, NSSLHA's newsletter, and ASHA magazine,
all included with your membership. Depending on the number of consecutive
years you have been in NSSLHA member, you will receive a substantial reduction
in your ASHA dues and fees payment for your first year of ASHA membership.
The national membership costs $45.00 and the local membership is $5.00. It
is possible to join only at the local level. Membership forms for NSSLHA
are located on the NSSLHA bulletin board on the fifth floor of Aderhold Hall,
The University of Georgia. We encourage you to be an active member of this
very important organization.
