Three new studies led by University Georgia weather and climate psychologist Alan Stewart suggest that people living near the U.S. Gulf Coast may systemically underestimate the damages that some hurricanes can produce when landfall occurs. The studies were published in the April 2011 issue of Weather, Climate and Society, the journal of the American Meteorological Society.
