Seventeen UGA College of Education students in the UGA/Modena Schools Study Abroad program were met by the Lord Mayor of Modena, Italy, while touring city hall during the first week of May. A news brief and a photo appeared in the local paper as well as the official city website on May 13.
The students are mostly undergraduates majoring in math education, science education, communication sciences and early childhood education. Two are Master of Arts in Teaching students.
The students live with Italian families and work each day from 8 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in either an Italian preschool, elementary or middle school. The students are registered for several different courses depending on their major and where they are in their programs. This is the program’s fifth year, but their first to be welcomed by the Lord Mayor, according to coordinator and assistant clinical professor Beth Tolley of the COE’s Department of Educational Theory and Practice.
The group will be in Italy until June 6.
