“When Mary Frances Early returns to the University of Georgia on Friday to receive an honorary doctorate, she will sit with the school president. But when Early was a graduate student at UGA in the summer of 1961, she sat alone,” reports a May 8 Atlanta Journal Constitution article.
Early (MMEd ’62, EdS ’67), who earned a master’s in music education and an educational specialist degree from UGA, was the university’s first black graduate.
