Innovative presentations and influential speakers will highlight the 50th annual Southeastern Business and Marketing Education Conference February 1-2 at the Georgia Hotel and Conference Center at the Georgia Center.

The regional conference, based in the University of Georgia College of Education’s new Department of Career and Information Studies, provides opportunity for professional growth for business and marketing education teachers and administrators at the elementary, secondary and post-secondary levels. The theme for this year’s conference is “Meeting the 21st Century Education Challenge.”

David P. Johnson, an associate professor and academic director of the Digital Media & Web Technology program at the University of Maryland will be the keynote speaker for the banquet Friday night.

Georgia Marketing Education Association 2012 Educator of the Year and UGA alumna Yvette T. Dupree (M.A. ’07, Ph.D. ‘12) will be the keynote speaker for the Opening General Session at 9 a.m. Saturday.  Dupree, of Morrow, is a certified marketing and business education teacher who is currently employed as a Youth Apprenticeship Specialist with Clayton County Schools. She earned both her doctorate in career and information studies and her master’s in occupational studies at UGA.

There will be four sessions of several simultaneous presentations offering useful classroom information and materials during the two-day conference including such topics as:

  • Workforce Education Challenges Amid a Lethargic Domestic Economy;
  • Competitive Speaking;
  • Online Engagement that Engages the Instructor Too;
  • The Five G’s of Motivation
  • Produce Creative Online Video Content with Free Tools from Microsoft;
  • Got Edmodo? The Social Learning Network for the Classroom.
  • Teaching Web Design Tips and Techniques
  • Hot Technologies; and
  • Problem-Based Learning.
