Robert (Bob) N. Saveland, a professor emeritus of the University of Georgia College of Education, has received the most prestigious award given by the National Council for Geographic Education.

This award is named for the NCGE’s visionary founder and longest serving editor of NCGE’s flagship publication, The Journal of Geography.

He is an avid sailor and donated boats to Sandy Creek Park to set up a community sailing program in 2007. He is also a supporter of the UGA Performing Arts Center.
