New rules, developed from a University of Georgia College of Education study and adopted by the Georgia High School Association to protect athletes against heat illness or injury, went into effect as high football teams return to practice today, reported an article in the July 26 Atlanta Journal Constitution.
The GHSA commissioned the study, according to executive director Ralph Swearngin, which was conducted by two UGA kinesiology researchers Michael Ferrara and Bud Cooper.
